A commercial solar installation does not always require a business to close, but it must be planned around the people, vehicles, deliveries, production and electrical systems that keep the site operating.
Start with operational constraints
The project team should understand working hours, delivery windows, production peaks, customer access, tenant areas, emergency routes and periods when shutdowns are unacceptable.
Typical activities to coordinate
- scaffolding, edge protection or roof-access systems;
- cranes, telehandlers or lifting operations;
- delivery and storage of panels;
- temporary exclusion zones;
- roof and electrical work areas;
- cable routes through occupied spaces; and
- planned isolation or shutdown of electrical equipment.
Can roof work continue while the building operates?
Often, subject to risk assessment and site controls. Areas below lifting or roof work may need temporary exclusion. Noise, dust, access and fire routes must be managed.
Electrical shutdown planning
Final connection, switchgear changes or testing may require an agreed shutdown. The scope should identify affected circuits, isolation responsibilities, notice periods, backup arrangements and safe restoration.
Warehouses and industrial premises
Forklifts, loading bays, HGV movements, production equipment and shift work require particular coordination. Traffic-management and lifting plans help separate installation activity from operations.
Farms, hospitality and public-facing sites
Farm work may need to avoid livestock movements, harvest or milking. Hotels and visitor sites may prefer quieter periods. Offices, schools and retail premises require secure segregation from staff, pupils or customers.

- weather or network dependencies.
