Who can apply for Home Energy Scotland funding?
The scheme is for owner-occupiers of existing Scottish homes used as their main or only residence. You do not need to receive benefits to qualify.
Home Energy Scotland checks your property, proposed measures and eligibility directly. The heat pump must meet the home’s full heating and hot-water needs. In addition, the installation must use an MCS-certified product and an MCS-certified installer.

Can I get a grant for battery storage in Scotland?
Battery storage is not included in the current eligible measures under the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan scheme.
If you are considering battery storage alongside a heat pump or solar installation, we can discuss a privately funded proposal. Battery storage can be planned alongside a funded heat pump project, provided the sequencing is agreed with the scheme provider first.
Can I install the heat pump before my funding is approved?
No. The scheme requires your written funding offer to be issued and accepted before installation begins.
Do not agree an installation date, pay a deposit, or commission any work until you have received and accepted your written offer from Home Energy Scotland. Work completed before funding is confirmed cannot be funded retrospectively.
Do I need an MCS-certified heat pump installer to use the Home Energy Scotland scheme?
Yes. Eligible heat pumps must be installed by an MCS-certified installer using an MCS-certified product.

Do I have to take out a loan?
No. A grant-only application is possible.
Optional interest-free loans require credit and affordability checks and carry a 1.5% administration fee, capped at £150.
Do I need an EPC before applying?
Current guidance allows a renewable-system application without an EPC before you apply.
Energy efficiency applications require an EPC recommendation. A post-installation EPC is required for the funding claim. Ask Home Energy Scotland about any insulation conditions that may apply to your application.
Does the heat pump grant cover air-to-air systems?
No. Air-to-air and hybrid heat pumps are excluded from the grant.
