What should the installation quotation cover?
- Design: room-by-room heat loss, heating and hot-water demand, proposed flow temperatures and system sizing.
- Equipment: the selected heat pump, cylinder where needed, controls and compatible accessories.
- Heating distribution: any radiator, underfloor heating, pipework or insulation changes included in the design.
- Electrical and building work: supply assessment, cabling, protective equipment, equipment base, drainage and making good.
- Installation and handover: removal of agreed redundant equipment, commissioning, settings, operating guidance, documentation and warranty information.
Why prices differ between homes
Two homes with similar floor area can have different heat losses, hot-water use and heating systems. Equipment location, cylinder space, pipe routes, radiator suitability and access can all change the installation scope. Ask whether necessary work is included, excluded or shown as a provisional allowance.
Air-to-water heat pumps commonly provide heating through radiators or underfloor heating and hot water through a cylinder. Cooling is not a standard feature of every domestic heating design. Scottish funding: check the correct scheme
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies to England and Wales, not Scotland. Eligible Scottish homeowners should check Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan: currently up to £7,500 grant plus an optional £7,500 interest-free loan for heat pumps, with a potential rural uplift. Running costs and aftercare
Do not assume every heat pump will cost less to run than every existing system. Running cost depends on heat demand, system performance, operating temperatures, controls and the energy tariffs being compared. Ask for the calculation and assumptions used for your proposal.
